The CARES Act Student Assistance at CFK is for students who have experienced a loss of income in their household due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and are in need of assistance for expenses such as housing, utilities, food, transportation and/or daycare expenses. Eligible students must be degree/certificate seeking or in the EMT, Law Enforcement or Project ACCESS (FA Eligible) Programs, meet standards of satisfactory academic progress, and have submitted the 2019-20 or 2020-21 FAFSA (If you have not completed the FAFSA, Click Here). Applicants are also expected to confirm registration in courses at The College of the Florida Keys in the Spring 2020, Summer 2020 and/or Fall 2020 terms. The funds were made available through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act that was passed by Congress and signed into law on March 27, 2020. This economic relief package was passed to protect the American people from the public health and economic impacts of COVID-19.

CARES Act Student Relief Reporting

This notice serves as an acknowledgment that The College of the Florida Keys signed and returned the Certification and Agreement to receive Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) Education Stabilization Funding to the Department of Education.

The following information is intended to fulfill the reporting requirements posted on May 6, 2020 by the Department of Education.

The College of the Florida Keys assures that the institution has used or intends to use, no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

The College of the Florida Keys has been awarded $240,928 for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.

As of September 30, 2020, The College of the Florida Keys has distributed $161,844.54 to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES act.

As of September 30, 2020, the College’s estimated total number of students eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES act is 2013.

As of September 30, 2020, the total number of students who have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant from The College of the Florida Keys under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is 344.

Students may apply for CARES Act student assistance by completing an application on the College’s website. CARES Act student assistance is designated for students who have experienced loss of income in their household due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and are in need of assistance for housing, utilities, food, transportation, or daycare expenses. Eligible students must meet standards of satisfactory academic progress and are or could be qualified to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965.
