Department of Children and Families Registration Fee Exemption

Department of Children and Families Registration Fee Exemption, FS 1009.25(1)c/d Custody of a Relative, Adopted from Dept of Children and Family Services after 05/05/1997, Guardian Assistance Program, Custody of Dept of Children and Families, F.S. 1009.25(1)(c)(d).

The Department of Children and Families (DCF) is responsible for certifying that students exiting the foster care system qualify for the educational fee exemption.  Eligible students are given an official fee exemption form (CF-FSP 5220) by a DCF staff person.  For information regarding eligibility requirements please contact the Office of Admissions.

Disabled Veterans Tuition and Fee Waiver

Disabled Veterans Tuition and Fee Waiver, FS 295.011

Pursuant to s. 295.011, F.S., beginning with the 2022-2023 academic year, a disabled veteran enrolled in a program of education approved for educational assistance under 38 U.S.C. s. 3313, and pursuant to the eligibility outlined in 38 U.S.C. s. 3313(2), as one who serves at least 30 continuous days on active duty in the Armed Forces commencing on or after September 11, 2001, and after completion of service, is discharged or released from active duty in the Armed Forces for a service-connected disability. A disabled veteran who does not qualify for the 100-percent eligibility tier under federal law is eligible to receive a waiver for tuition and fees. Therefore, eligible recipients of the waiver are disabled veterans classified by any military branch as 100 percent disabled but do not qualify to receive 100 percent in GI Bill educational benefits. Dual Enrollment Exemption

Florida Classroom Teacher Tuition Registration Fee Waiver

Florida Classroom Teacher Tuition Registration Fee Waiver, FS 1009.26(10)

A state university or Florida College System institution may waive tuition and fees for a classroom teacher, as defined in s. 1009.26(10) who is employed full-time by a school district and who meets the academic requirements established by the Florida College System institution or state university for up to 6 credit hours per term on a space-available basis in undergraduate courses approved by the Department of Education. Such courses shall be limited to undergraduate courses related to special education, mathematics, or science. The waiver may not be used for courses scheduled during the school district’s regular school day. The State Board of Education shall adopt a rule that prescribes the process for the approval of courses by the department. The student must register in person during the add with instructor permission period each term and submit a new waiver application each term by the posted deadline.

Florida High School Out-of-State Residency Waiver

Florida High School Out-of-State Residency Waiver, HB 851, FS 1009.26(12)(a)

Effective July 1, 2014 [applicable for Fall 2014 and thereafter], House Bill 851 [amended section (s.) 1009.26 (12)(a), Florida Statutes (F.S.), fee waivers] authorizes an out-of-state fee waiver for students who attended a high school in Florida, regardless of immigration status. Florida Student Homelessness Student Tuition and Fee Exemption

Florida Student Homelessness Student Tuition and Fee Exemption, FS 1009.25(1)(e), Section 725 McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. 

According to Florida law, a student who is homeless may be exempted from paying tuition and fees at a Florida College System institution. For the purpose of the fee exemption, Florida law defines homelessness as, “A student who lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence or whose primary nighttime residence is a public or private shelter designed to provide temporary residence for individuals intended to be institutionalized, or a public or private place not designed for, or ordinarily used as, a regular sleeping accommodation for human beings.” For information regarding eligibility requirements please contact the Office of Admissions.

Homeless Student Registration Tuition and Fee Exemption

Homeless Student Registration Tuition and Fee Exemption, FS 1009.25(1)

The Florida Homeless Tuition Exemption is available to a student who lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence or whose primary nighttime residence is a public or private shelter designed to provide temporary residence for individuals intended to be institutionalized, or a public or private place not designed for, or ordinarily used as, a regular sleeping accommodation for human beings. For information regarding eligibility requirements please contact the Office of Admissions.

Students are required to submit an agency letter, from a homeless shelter, school district, homeless liaison, transitional living program, or runaway shelter, as proof of eligibility for the exemption to the Office of Enrollment Services. The agency must be located and licensed to operate in the state of Florida. The supporting document provided by the agency must be dated less than 30 days old by the first day of class for the requested term.  A new letter is needed for each semester the student is requesting the waiver by the posted deadline.

 

 

Line of Duty Registration Fee Waiver

Line of Duty Registration Fee Waiver, FS 112.191(3), 112.1912 (2)(a), 112.1915 (3)(d), 295.161 (8)(a), 250.24 (4).

This waiver is for any student who is a spouse or child of a deceased law enforcement, correctional, or probation officer, firefighter, emergency medical technicians or paramedics who died in the line of duty after July 1, 2019 or a spouse or child of a deceased Florida national guard member, active-duty military member who died in the line of duty or a child of a deceased teacher or school administrator who died in the line of duty. Military Honoree Registration Fee Waiver

Military Honoree Registration Fee Waiver, FS 1009.26 (8), mandatory for qualifying students. 

This waiver is for any student who is a recipient of a Purple Heart, or another combat decoration superior in precedence which was awarded for valor. The college shall waive undergraduate tuition for each recipient. Such a waiver for a Purple Heart recipient or recipient of another combat decoration superior in precedence shall be applicable for 110 percent of the number of required credit hours of the degree or certificate program for which the student is enrolled.

Please submit your DD-214 form issued at the time of separation from service that indicates a Purple Heart, or another combat decoration superior in precedence which was awarded for valor to the Office of Enrollment Services at the time of your admission.

Religious Persecution

Religious Persecution Out-of-State Residency Waiver, 2024-EO-01

Effective January 9, 2024, the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) Emergency Order 2024-E0-01 authorizes an out-of-state fee waiver for students who have suffered, are currently suffering, or credibly fear suffering future discrimination, harassment, intimidation, or violence, either at their current institution or with a substantial nexus to their current institution, on the bases of religion. Spouse of Deceased State Employee Tuition Registration Fee Waiver

Spouse of Deceased State Employee Tuition Registration Fee Waiver, FS 1009.26(7), mandatory for qualifying students.

Section 1009.267, Florida Statutes (F.S.). The spouse of a deceased state employee is entitled, when eligible for the payment of student fees by the state as employer pursuant to s. 440.16, in lieu of such payment, to a full waiver of student fees for up to 80 semester hours in any Florida College System institution. The spouse of a deceased state employee shall be entitled to a full waiver of such fees as provided in ss. 1009.22 and 1009.23 in lieu of the payment of such fees. The benefits provided for in this paragraph shall be in addition to other benefits provided for in this section and shall terminate 7 years after the death of the deceased employee, or when the total payment in eligible compensation under paragraph (b) has been received. To qualify for the educational benefit under this paragraph, the spouse shall be required to meet and maintain the regular admission requirements of, and be registered at, such career center or community college, and make satisfactory academic progress as defined by the educational institution in which the student is enrolled. State Employee Tuition Registration Fee Waiver

State Employee Tuition Registration Fee Waiver, FS 1009.265(1), mandatory for qualifying students.

Section 1009.265(1), Florida Statutes (F.S.). State employees are defined as full-time employees of the executive, legislative and judicial branches of state government, except for persons employed by a state university. State Employees can receive tuition and fee waivers for up to six (6) credit hours per term on a “space-available” basis.  At CFK, space available is defined as any time during the add period.  State Employees must complete an Application for State Employee Fee Waiver. Effective July 1, 2015 and pursuant to Florida Statues Chapter 1009.26 (13)(a), Congressman C.W. “Bill” Young Veteran Tuition Wavier Program expands eligibility for an out-of-state fee waiver to veteran’s spouses and dependents and any other student who is entitled to and uses educational assistance provided by the United States Department of Veteran Affairs who physically resides in Florida while enrolled as a degree or certificate-seeking student. Veteran Out-of-State Residency Waiver, HB 7015, FS 1009.26(13), mandatory for qualifying students.

Effective July 1, 2014 (not retroactive), House Bill 7015 [amended section (s.) 1009.26 (13), Florida Statutes (F.S.), fee waivers] created the Congressman C.W. Bill Young Veteran Tuition Waiver Program, which authorized an out-of-state fee waiver for honorably discharged veterans of the United States (U.S.) Armed Forces, U.S. Reserve Forces or the National Guard who physically reside in Florida. Wrongfully Incarcerated Person Registration Waiver

Wrongfully Incarcerated Person Registration Waiver, FS 961.06(1)(b)

“Wrongfully incarcerated person” means a person whose felony conviction and sentence have been vacated by a court of competent jurisdiction and, with respect to whom pursuant to the requirements of section 3 of Chapter 2008-39 of the Laws of Florida, the original sentencing court has issued its order finding that the person neither committed the act nor the offense that served as the basis for the conviction and incarceration and that the person did not aid, abet, or act as an accomplice or accessory to a person who committed the act or offense.

“Eligible for compensation” means a person meets the definition of “wrongfully incarcerated person” and is not disqualified from seeking compensation under the criteria prescribed in the law.

A waiver of tuition and fees for up to 120 hours of instruction at any Florida college or community college as defined in s. 961.06 (1)(b) Florida Statutes if the wrongfully incarcerated person meets and maintains the regular admission requirements of such college; remains registered at such educational institution; and makes satisfactory academic progress as defined by the educational institution in which the claimant is enrolled.
