A Message from the President

In August 1965, Monroe Junior College opened the doors of opportunity to the residents of the Keys. For the first time, the people of Monroe County could earn a college degree without having to relocate or commute to the mainland. Individuals could learn and develop skills that could improve their own lives and enhance the well-being of their families—both now and for generations to come. The Keys stood poised to benefit from a stronger economy brought forth by a more talented workforce across an array of fields like business, nursing, hospitality, marine science, the arts, and law enforcement.

The College progressed extensively from its humble beginnings. It has evolved by being a pillar for economic development, adding innovative, in-demand academic and career technical programs, while broadening the number and scope of offerings ranging from high school diplomas to adult education and baccalaureate degrees. Facilities have expanded beyond the initial feat of filling a Stock Island shoreline to erect the Key West Campus. CFK now features state-of-the-art classrooms and labs, learning spaces, marine vessels, a waterfront residence hall, and an Upper Keys Center. Through advancements in teaching and technology, the College has improved learning modalities and delivers education beyond the limits of a specific place and time to accommodate busy students throughout the Keys and well beyond the island chain.

Strengthened by personal relationships with students, alumni, supporters, community stakeholders, and industry partners, and by building bridges, the College remains steadfast to serving the dynamic intellectual and occupational needs of the Florida Keys and global community.

Please join me in celebrating The College of the Florida Keys as we celebrate 60 years—and continue to sail toward new opportunities and a brighter future.
